YouTube comment export guide

How to Download YouTube Shorts Comments

Shorts comments can reveal recurring questions, reactions and ideas for your next video. Use a public Short’s URL to collect a saved snapshot in TubeVox, then export the comments and replies in the format your workflow needs.

1. Copy the URL of one public Short

Open the Short on YouTube and copy its share link or the URL from your browser. A Shorts URL has the shape https://www.youtube.com/shorts/VIDEO_ID. TubeVox also accepts supported watch URLs and youtu.be links for the same video. Use the actual video identifier from the link; “VIDEO_ID” is only a placeholder.

Submit one Short at a time. A channel URL or playlist is not a substitute for an individual Short, and this workflow does not collect every Short from a channel. Comments must be publicly available; TubeVox cannot bypass disabled comments or private-video access restrictions.

2. Review the limit and start extraction

Paste the URL into the downloader. If you are signed out, complete sign-in or registration and review the prefilled URL on the dashboard. Pasting a URL alone does not start a paid extraction. Review the settings and explicitly start the extraction when ready.

You need at least 500 available credits to start any extraction, including a Short with only a few comments. The minimum balance is not a flat charge: each successfully saved comment or reply costs 1 credit. Credits are reserved for the job, and unused reserved credits return when the job settles.

Wait for the background job to finish and open its saved results. The count can differ from the number displayed on YouTube because of the extraction limit, source availability or comments changing over time. Replies count toward the same extraction limit as top-level comments.

3. Download Shorts comments to Excel, CSV or JSON

Review the results and apply filters if you want a subset, such as comments containing a phrase relevant to your video. Open the export dialog and choose “Filtered comments” for matching rows or “All comments” for every saved row in that extraction. Export scope is separate from the current table page.

Choose “All fields (including comment IDs)” or “Selected fields”. For content planning, Comment, Likes and Published may be sufficient. For conversation analysis, also keep Comment ID, Parent Comment ID and Type so you can distinguish replies and connect threads.

Choose Excel (XLSX) for a spreadsheet, CSV for import into a spreadsheet or analysis tool, or JSON for structured processing. Selected fields work in all three formats; JSON also retains export metadata. Generate and download the file. Exports and repeated downloads cost 0 credits.

4. Check the file before using it

Compare the downloaded data-row count with the chosen export scope. Inspect a few comments, confirm that your selected fields are present and check that emojis and multilingual text display correctly. Import CSV as UTF-8 and preserve ID columns as text.

Keep the Short URL, extraction date, selected limit and filter settings with your analysis. Likes and comments are a snapshot rather than a permanent measure of audience opinion. If you filtered out top-level comments, a reply may reference a parent that is not included in the file.

This workflow exports standard comments and replies. It does not download the Short’s video, a transcript, live chat or chat replay. For extraction errors or unavailable comments, consult the troubleshooting guide before starting another collection.
